The responsibilities of the electric department are to operate and maintain the municipal electric system. Our goal is to provide a clean uninterrupted power supply at an affordable price to our customers and assist them with their electrical needs. The department maintains the City's street lights and the electrical equipment. Other duties include the maintenance of traffic control device systems. The electric system currently supplies power to over 5,100 residential, 740 commercial, and between 35 and 40 industrial customers.

As a member of American Municipal Power (AMP), Napoleon is one of 135 municipal members who have partnered together to expand our ability to provide a reliable, sustainable, and cost competitive electric system for the benefit of our customers.  This membership has allowed Napoleon to build renewable energy projects and provide the Efficiency Smart program and the EcoSmart Choice program.

Napoleon Power & Light is one of 274 of the nation's more than 2,000 public power utilities to hold an RP3 designation. APPA’s RP3 program is based on industry-recognized leading practices in four important disciplines: Reliability, Safety, Workforce Development and System Improvement. An RP3 designation is a sign of a utility's dedication to operating an efficient, safe, and reliable distribution system. Being recognized by the RP3 program demonstrates to community leaders, governing board members, suppliers, and service providers a utility’s commitment to its employees, customers, and community.
